The Heartbeat Behind Sabbath
At gentle and lowly co., we believe Sabbath is more than a day—it’s an invitation to live differently. As apprentices of Jesus, we’re learning to resist hurry, embrace God’s provision, and remember we are deeply loved not for what we do, but for who we are.
In a culture that prizes hustle, Sabbath invites us into holy stillness. It’s a rhythm of rest and renewal that reorients our hearts toward trust, worship, and delight.
This space is here to help you explore that rhythm—whether you’re new to Sabbath or returning to it with fresh eyes.
What Sabbath Looks Like for Us
We strive to observe a Sabbath pause each week, from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown. Additionally, we set aside extended periods of rest during significant seasons of the year, such as our Summer Sabbath in May.
This time is dedicated to intentionally unplugging, recalibrating, and reconnecting with God in stillness and simplicity, both personally and as a business.
A slower pace. A deeper trust.
A life anchored in rest.

FAQs: Practicing Sabbath in Real Life
Is Sabbath just for Sundays or church leaders?
Sabbath is a gift for all of God’s people—students, parents, creatives, business owners. You don’t have to be in ministry to practice it. It’s for anyone longing to live deeply from God’s love.
Where in Scripture do we see we’re invited into Sabbath today?
Sabbath is woven throughout Scripture—from Genesis 2, when God rests after creation, to the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20. In the New Testament, Jesus models the heart of Sabbath in the Gospels, reminding us, “The Sabbath was made for man” (Mark 2:27). And in Hebrews 4, we’re told there remains a Sabbath rest for God’s people—an open invitation to trust, cease striving, and enter God’s rest today through Christ.
What if resting feels unproductive or uncomfortable?
You’re not alone. Many of us feel that tension. But Sabbath reminds us our worth isn’t tied to output. We rest to remember that God is our provider and sustainer.
How does gentle and lowly co. build Sabbath into its rhythms?
We rest weekly and seasonally, including our Summer Sabbath in May. During this time, we step away from emails, social, and orders to honor God’s design for rest and renewal.
What if I can’t take a full 24 hours?
Start where you are. Try setting aside 4-6 hours to be fully present. Even small steps toward rest matter.
What’s the difference between taking a break and practicing Sabbath?
Great question. A break often offers physical relief or a temporary pause, but Sabbath is a holy invitation. It’s not just rest from work—it’s rest unto God. Sabbath is set apart as a sacred time to stop, delight, worship, and trust. While a break may recharge your body, Sabbath restores your soul by anchoring you in God’s presence and provision.
